I love it when someone sings a song you are familiar with, but then you suddenly hear it differently. Hathaway definitely does this in “I Dreamed a Dream.” LOVE this.

Directed by Tom Hooper, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Aaron Tveit.
This trailer does an excellent job of conveying at once intimacy and grand scale. On that level, it’s impressive what Hooper has been able to pull off with so little time and footage. Some may criticize Hathaway’s singing, but it’s working within the dramatics of the song and the moment. That said, this is playing to its audience (musical fans, Oscar bait fans) and I’m not sure how attractive it will be to a more regular movie goer.
